Dentures Post-Op Instructions — Danville
- You should attempt to leave the denture or partial in place for the first 24 hours or until you return to the office the following day to be checked. This will help the dentist in determining where adjustment is necessary.
- You will experience an increase in salivary flow in the first 2 – 3 days. You will also have some slight changes in your speech for a few days. These are both normal occurrences and will clear up shortly as you become adapted.
- Initially, your diet should consist of soft foods. Also, your food should be cut into small bite-size pieces. Do not attempt to bite foods at first. As you chew, place food on both sides of your mouth. This stabilizes your prosthesis and makes it function better. Be patient. This is a difficult skill to master and can take differing amounts of time to adapt to.
- During the initial adjustment phase, it may be helpful, especially with a full denture, to use a dental adhesive to help secure the denture to the tissue.
- Return to the office as directed for adjustments.
- Complete denture patients should be seen at least once every year to check the tissues and to inspect the denture for proper fit and wear.
